First off I would strongly suggest trying to keep an open mind when learning new ways to get sober. Here are my 7 tips for getting clean and sober.

Admit you have a problem

If you are struggling with alcohol or drug addiction, maybe it is time to admit that you have a problem. This is the first step on the road to recovery. Admitting you have a problem and need to get sober is truly the first step. Next, you can start to take action on how to get sober. There are many resources available for how to get sober, and it is important to find the right one for you when making solid sober plans. There are also numerous support groups in addition to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings available in big cities. Almost all small towns even have AA and NA meetings nowadays.

Many who live in small towns are afraid of others finding out they are going to AA meetings and don’t want to be judged. Never be ashamed to seek any kind of help. Let’s face it most people around us already know about our problem and most people are grateful we are getting help. If you are ready to start recovering, admitting you have a problem is truly the first step.

Honestly, anyone should never be ashamed of admitting they have a problem and are ready to ask for help. Almost everyone who enters AA or NA is already carrying tones of shame and guilt for countless actions over years. Therefore asking for help is never easy for these people. The very act of judging and condemning people in this perilous situation is like putting the cart before the horse, which benefits nobody.

Establish a Support System

One of the best ways to get sober is to have a supportive network of people around you. This can be family, friends, or any support group such as Alcoholics Anonymous. Everyone is not all the same and therefore should be treated accordingly. For example, when I first went to AA I found it very difficult to even talk to anyone. I would go to the AA meeting and then leave before anyone even tried to speak to me, this didn’t help me but it was better than not going at all.

When someone is looking at how to get sober finding support is extremely important, however small it may seem. Almost everyone and I mean everyone makes the common mistake of trying to get sober without asking for any help. Tring to get sober on your own is not only difficult, it usually ends up in failing again. Some relapses are final and those people never get another chance at getting sober. Having someone to talk to and share your experiences with can help get through the detox process and stay sober.

Get rid of the Restraints That Are Holding You Back

If you are using alcohol or drugs to cope with life, it is important to remember that these substances will only help for a certain amount of time. Eventually, you will need to find other ways to cope with stress and anxiety. This may mean changing your lifestyle completely or finding other forms of relief. These are some of the little things we have to consider when honestly addressing how to get sober.

Seek Counseling and Therapy. If you are struggling with an addiction to alcohol or drugs, it is important to seek professional help. Counseling and therapy can help you to understand your addiction and how to address it. This can be a long and difficult process, but it is worth it in the long run. One of the most important changes you can make when trying to get sober is to change your diet and exercise habits. Simply going for a daily 10-minute walk can help the body detox.

If you are using alcohol or drugs as a way to cope with stress, your body will respond by becoming addicted to them. Once you have stopped using them, it is important to make sure that your body has enough nutrients and energy to heal itself.

Step 1: Make a plan

This means that you need to figure out what you need to do to get sober. This might include setting goals, creating a plan of action, and tracking your progress. It is always a good idea to start with small steps at the beginning of recovery. The last you want to do when starting in recovery is to set yourself up for failure.

Most new addicts and alcoholics entering recovery are coming from a defeated state. Making a simple achievable plan is crucial. It is important to remember that it is only the beginning of your journey. Once you have admitted that you have a problem, you can start working on solving it. Remember to “Keep it Simple”.

Step 2: Stick to your Plan

The first step to getting sober is having a plan. Without a plan, it is very easy to get lost and relapse, and it’s true some people don’t make it back from another relapse. It is also important to keep your recovery plans simple and attainable. Lord knows there’s already been enough failure. Having a plan will help you stay on track, make good decisions, and keep you motivated to go one more day. Hence; why another popular AA slogan says “one day at a time”.

The most important part of any plan is sticking to it. If you are unable to stick to your plan, it will be very difficult to recover. In the beginning, I went to 3 AA meetings a day. It is important to find a support system and make sure you are regularly checking in with yourself. If you find yourself struggling, do not hesitate to reach out for help. There are many resources available to help you get sober, and with the right effort, you can and will succeed at getting clean and sober.

Step 3: Remove Temptation

One of the most important things you can do to get sober is to remove temptation from your life. This means removing all drugs and alcohol around you and avoiding situations and people that will lead you back to drinking or using drugs. Avoid bars or social events where there is alcohol. If you can’t avoid them, then make sure that you have a plan for how you’ll deal with temptation when it arises.

For example, remove all alcohol and drugs in your home, this includes work. Try to keep a sober friend nearby who can help you clean things up and stay on track. Most people I know have always made the mistake of thinking “no problem” I can resist.

Step 4: Find Good Support

Finding support can be difficult when trying to get sober. There are many options available, but it is important to find a support group that is right for you. Some people find support groups helpful, while others find them too personal. Some people simply can’t go to AA meetings because they are somewhat isolated and this is where online support can be the right answer.

These days there are all kinds of Facebooks groups for AA meetings and support. I found that listening to AA speaker tapes was the biggest help for me at the beginning here is a link to some YouTube videos I share. It is important to find a group that will help you stay sober, and that you feel comfortable with. Get professional help by looking into Inpatient Treatment. Here.

Step 5: Drink Plenty of Water

It may sound stupid but drinking plenty of water is an important part of getting sober. Not only will it help you stay hydrated, but it can also help to flush out your system and help you feel more clean and sober.

If you find that you are struggling to stay sober, do not hesitate to reach out for help. There are many resources available to help you get sober, and with the right effort, you can succeed. The benefits of drinking plenty of water have always been underrated to achieve better health.

Step 6: Exercise and Eat Healthy

Exercise and eating healthy are two important ways to help you get sober. Exercise can help you feel better physically and may also help you to feel less tempted to drink. Eating healthy foods can help you feel full and avoid unhealthy foods that can lead to weight gain. I have known several people who joined gyms and found it most helpful when starting to get healthy. Both exercise and eating healthy are important ways to maintain sobriety. Exercise can help with how to get sober.

If you are really out of shape and the thought of exercise and eating healthy makes you want to quit, remember these are only suggestions to aim for. Maybe a 5-minute walk outside 3 times a week is a good starting point. Whatever sober plans you choose, remember to keep them simple and attainable.

Step 7: Stay Positive

It is important to stay positive while trying to get sober. If you focus on the good things in your life, it will help you stay sober. How to get sober isn’t the problem, maintaining your sobriety is the real challenge. You should also think about the reasons why you want to get sober and what you can do to make that happen. If you can stay positive, it will be much easier to stay sober.

Conclusion: Sobriety is a lifelong journey, but it is worth it. With these tips, you will be on your way to a sober lifestyle! Do your best to keep things simple when you first learn how to get sober and above all else give yourself a chance.
